Johnson 8hp year

first time posting, great site! I am buying a used Johnson 8hp, runs great and is what I need for my 12ft Jon boat.

I am having a hard time figuring out the year for this model: 8REDD

It looks like it may be a 1990, can anyone confirm, please?

Anything specific to look for / worry about for this year and model motor?

I just checked on boat.net and didn't see that model number for that year.
I even checked 1986 thru 1991 and didn't see that model number.
Look on the transum plate and it should have an I.D. plate wiith the model number and year.

The plate says J8REDD. I kept on googling and came upon Leroysramblings dot com, a great site about everything OMC. BAsed on his info, my motor is a 1996! the last D in the model number is a revision or version identifier... Kinda had to know that!
