I have a 1985 30 HP Johnson and am wondering if there is a way to the location of my gear shifter. I saw where starting around 1990 or so the gear shifter was at the front of the motor instead of the side. I looked at the diagram listed at boats.net for a 190 30HP and I am a bit confused. It shows both the tiller and the gear shifter together. Is there a way to just get a gear shifter? It gets old having to reach around the side of the motor to put in and out of gear. It seems that all of the newer motors have this feature. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
