stator problem

When sitting and connected to a battery the stator will get hot. I have spark and the motor will start with good spark to both cylinders. When the notor is not running, key turned off, the stator will heat up very hot and eventually discharge the battery.

I have a new stator ordered and rectifier (part fo the rebuild) but any other ideas to check?

The coils are new and I have put a new key swirch in as part of the rebuild.

Rectifier is probably shorted out.
