hopefully someone can give me a couple ideas on why my motor is losing power, I just hung a new to me but used 1990 140 on my 21' deckboat, it starts right up and idles great, great hole shot and WOT hit 31mph (gps) for about 2 miles then bogged down and only got up to 23mph WOT, the same thing happened on 2 trips out sat & sunday, could this possibly be a thermostat issue? any other suggestions? Tach is malfunctioning, it went to 4000 then dropped to 0 (the engine sounded fine, not overreving) no oil tank, i use pre mix.

Check compression. Could be a fuel restriction, dirty carbs or loosing fire on one cylinder.
