I have a 1987 30 HP Johnson and I am having a problem accelerating from idle to wide open throttle.
Starts and idles just fine. But, while idling and in gear, if I push the throttle to the wide-open throttle (WOT) position to take off the motor hesitates (boggs) for about 1-2 seconds and then, if it does not stall (which it sometimes does), it catches on it revs to full RPM and away I go.
It is more prevalent when the motor is not at full warm operating temp (that is when it is more likely to stall) but does this no matter the operating temperature.
What I have to do to get to WOT is to very gently and gradually apply throttle through the lower RPM range. Once it starts to rev up I can apply full throttle, the hesitation only occurs if I go from idle to WOT
This has been going on for a couple of years so it is not a problem with the fuel in the tank. I have rebuilt the carb and have replaced the fuel pump. It gets new spark plugs every year. I also replaced the electronic control module but that was for a different problem; however, it did not help this problem.
Any thoughts on where to look next?
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.
