assemblying rod to piston

I have a 1989 60hp 3 cylinder thats been bored , installing new pistons & don't know which side of rod goes up . Bought new Seloc book & keeps mentioning hole in upper side of rod , but don't see what they are talking about . anyone else run into this or know which ends up ??
