Johnson 15 HP 1987 J15RCUD: One more question

Sorry, one more question. My water pump had a white plastic part described as a water restrictor (0326885 EVINRUDE/JOHNSON L/P). It is listed as being obsolete on the Boats.net parts page. It sits below the seal on the water pump housing. Should I use the old part, or not? Was it found to be unnecessary? Again, Thanks!
