1974 6hp priming problem

Hey guys, I have a 1974 6hp johnson. I just bought this motor a couple weeks ago and i know that i am going to have to pump some time and money into it since it has been sitting for years. My first problem is when you squeeze the primer bulb...... it wont prime, you can hear air coming into carb (whistle). Just trying to get an idea where to start.

Could be bad primer bulb or pickup in gas tank broke off.
