72 johnson 20 hp lower unit, ds and ps seal questions

i am replacing all the seals on my lower unit. the original seals on the drive shaft and prop shaft were single seals, replacement seals are double seals. do i install them face to face, or cup to cup?

the driveshaft seal seems to be the same size as the original, is it ok to use the single seal or do i still stack the seals? if the seal extends past the housing is that ok? as the profile of the two seals will be taller than the single seal it is replacing?

should the carrige bearing and rear assembly need to be sealed to the housing?
