35hp wireing issue

Hi guys I have a 79 35hp Johnson. And I have no fire I've tested the solenoid and there's a small wire that runs from the bottom of the solenoid to a spade connector on the other side of the motor. When I put my multi meter on the spade connection and pushed the starter button I got it to try to fire for a second. But then I got nothing I replaced the wire and both ends but I still have nothing.any help will be greatly appreciated

O worked on it some more now all I get is a clicking sound from the solenoid

Sounds like you may have a defective solenoid. Remove both small wires, or the one if there is only one, turn the key. If you get power at the wire, then likely solenoid, if you do not, possibly key switch.
