Steering Grease Fittings

I have a 1989 Johnson 200 GT.
I cant the grease to go into the zert fittings on the steering.
Just wants to squirt out the sides.
Any suggestions?

I found out I have to remove cables and grease manually. The zert fittings were for the up and down trim.
