water pump gaskets one or two

The parts diagram for 1979 6 hp johnson lists "2" required for the gasket between the water pump housing and the "metal plate.

do they mean two stacked together? Those I talked to seem to thing this was wrong.

Do the mean one on each side of the "metal plate"?
If so the one underneath the plate doesn't really match up with anything except the rim of the lower base of the water pump.

So one or two gaskets needed? and if two where does the second one go?

Please check out 1979 not 1969. This diagram shows the gasket below the bearing housing as did the 1969. BUT it also shows a gasket between the water pump housing and the metal plate (the 1969 doesn't even show this gasket).

Now in addition the 1979 parts list has "2 required" for this gasket between the water pump and the metal plate. There in lies the confusion.
If 2 are required
are they stackied?
one on top and one on the bottom of the metal plate?
or a mistake in the specs and only one is required?
