  • 90 hp with low compression on #3 & 4 cyl

I am considering purchasing what looks like a very clean 1989 19' Starcraft at a very low price. However, I am told that the compression on the cylinders is: 120lb on #1, 115lb on #2, 70lb on #3 and 95lb on cylinder #4. How bad is this and is it common? I know it is impossible to diagnose a problem with this limited information but I guess I am wondering if there is a common cause for this condition?

I am new to power boating but my kids love getting out on the water tubing and fishing so any info would be helpful.

    Thanks!

That motor will need to be rebuilt. The compression is not with-in specs.

      Is a rebuild a $1000, $2000 or more proposition?

The cost depends on the amount of damage. You can take to your local dealer for an estimate.
