Have acquired my later father in law's 6 hp johnson. I have downlaoded a manual for 1.5 -35 hp 65-78 models.
Unfortunately most of the internet supplier only go back to 68. However when I look at the diagrams the parts appear to be the same.
It fires up (if you squirt fuel in the carb); but is obviously not getting fuel. It's been setting up for some time (maybe since 73 - 74) and seems to be really gummed up. I do know it was used very rarely. It might have a total of 30 hours on it.
I think it would be prudent to replace the impeller, rebuild/replace the fuel pump, rebuild the carb and change the lower unit oil.
I'm not opposed to spending the money for the parts, I can do the labor and it would make my wife very, very happy (she is sentimental).
the 1st thing I need to verify are the interchangability of the parts for 66 models and what seems to be available on line.
Boat.net's parts directory only goes back to 68 for this model. If the later model years parts will work (say a 68 -70) it looks like I will need about $250.00 in parts.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
