  • 1987 140hp regulator/rectifier

I recently had an electrical fire on my 140hp Johnson. It turned out the regulator/rectifier had shorted out and caught fire. I replaced the stator and bought a new regulator from Boats.net My question is the stator has a yellow and yellow/gray wire going to the terminal board and the regulator has 2 solid yellow wires coming from it. The wiring diagram shows a yellow and yellow/gray wire coming from the regulator. Does it matter which yellow wire connects to the stator wires? Also, the new regulator came with an extra red wire that installation instructions say to install it from the terminal board to the B+ side of the starter solenoid. I don't think the original regulator had an extra red wire. Do I need to hook this up? Thanks for any help

Yes can connect either yellow to yellow/gray. Yes do need to connect red wire to starter solenoid.
