1966 6 horse johnson

my 6 horse jonhson (1966 model# cd 23 e ) starts and runs but will not get up to speed.... the lean / rich nob is broken ..... where is it to be set at .......or is it my carb????? thanks

Have you got good compression on both cylinders?
Have you checked the spark to see if you have bright blue spark that will jump a 1/4" air gap?
The static setting of the high speed needle is 3/4 turn from lightly seated and then you have to fine tune it on the water.

Edit: I gave you some wrong information on the needle valve. Your high speed jet is fixed and you cannot adjust it. You must be talking about the low speed needle valve, in which case you turn it out from lightly seated 1 1/4 turn and then fine tune it for the best idle in the water.
