My 89 Johnson 30hp is difficult to crank, even after 20-30 min of use. example, running motor almost full throttle for about 20 min and killed it long enough to answer my phone and it took several mins to get it started again. this is my first boat and know little about them.

May have to open throttle about a 1/3 and choke it to start a hot engine, may need to remove and clean carb.

Already doing the throttle choke. I looked at the carb and it didn't seem dirtybut I'll remove it and get a closer look thanks

Be sure to verify every air/fuel passage is clear from debri. Carb/choke cleaner (with straw) is good for verifing passage is clear.
