Identifying model year

I have a Johnson 15hp manual start and the person I got it from thought it was a 1996 model. Is there someway I can accurately determine the correct year, and, can this motor be converted to electric start. If so, what would be an approximate cost of this conversion? Would a Johnson dealer handle this conversion? Thank you for any help for this newbie.

Post the model number, it will tell the year. You can convert most engines to electric start, but it is not cheap.
