Hey all,
My name is Jim and I am new to the forum and figured that I would see if anyone is familiar with the 1973 115 hp Johnson v4 outboard. The boat that it is mounted to is a 1973 Caravelle Fish and Ski, all original. I keep the boat about 20 minutes from my house at the lake where I use it. I plan on changing the impeller there, (out of the water) in an afternoon. I haven't changed the impeller on this outboard before, and haven't taken it apart. Since I don't want to leave it all apart at the storage place, I hope to have all the parts I need and get it done there.
Also, none of the dealerships around here like to supply the parts for ob's this old, so I am getting ready to order some parts online for another outboard, and want to buy the parts I need to change the impeller on my 115 Johnson so I can combine all the shipping.
I am using the schematics at: Dixie Marine Sales | Evinrude OEM Parts | Johnson OEM Parts
So far I added to the list:
Impeller:
101 SKU: 0385528
IMPELLER ASSEMBLY
The impeller key:
87 SKU: 0308928
KEY, Driveshaft to impeller
impeller housing seal:
84 SKU: 0317843
driveshaft o-ring:
86 SKU: 0310585
'O' RING, Driveshaft to crankcase
SEAL, Impeller housing
Am I missing anything or buying stuff I don't need (maybe the key?)? What greases etc do you guys prefer?
Or does anyone know a part number of a kit that contains the parts usually needed to change the impeller? These parts come to about 75 without shipping, and I keep seeing these unlabeled kits (with just a part number) that are a lot less. I am guessing that they are cheaper because these kits are for newer models....or nobody knows what kits these years fit and buys the parts individually...
There's not much info on the web that I can find for older than 79. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
