1989 Johnson 150 vro trim issue

Need some help, the trim works off and on checked all wires,fluid level is correct,relay works and no leaks. It hangs up in the upright position but if I tap on the trim motor or hydraulics with a hammer it starts to work. Could the trim moter be going out? Or is there something else to look for? Thanks for any help

Probably the trim motor, need to replace or repair it.

Thanks for the help. With 89 year model are all the OMC trim motors the same or are they different? I looked at the trim motor but could not find any type of part number on it. 89 Johnson 150 vro

Oay had the trim motor repaired works like new. Went ahead and drained all of the oil to replace with new.Now is there a brand of hydraulic oil I should use or will just any type of hydraulic oil do the job. Now do you know how much oil it will take to refill the unit?

ATF fluid or any power-trim fluid would be fine.
