Dear Experts,
A friend of mine has a Johnson j40tlccs on a pontoon boat. It had been running perfectly but suddenly it started running on only the upper cylinder. I switched plugs, plug wires, and coils and the problem continued on the lower cylinder. There is a cylindrical part on the side of the crankcase with a small orange leaver. If I move this lever many times the lower cylinder will catch but stop very quickly.
I removed the air cleaner, both carbs. and the reed plate. None of the reeds are broken but one of the four reeds on the lower cylinder does not appear to be lying exactly flat on the reed plate.
I am going to order a new set of reeds but thought it good to check and see if you had any other ideas which I should check on.
Thanks for your help.
God Bless,
John Whitfield
