Johnson 1996 35hp 3cyl Overheating

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with Johnson 1996 35hp 3cyl model J35KLEDC.
It has an issue with overheating (I think).
It is starting without any issues, running for about 10-15 minutes and completely dying. Next day same story again.
I was told that it is known issue with Power packs on this particular model.
I replaced power pack and stator. No luck, same issue.

Now I'm stuck. I have no idea which direction to look to.

When the motor begins dying, complete a compression and spark test. Post your results.

When it is dying, I'm trying to start the motor again. Starter is spinning the fly wheel, but there is no spark.

I didn't have a chance to do compression test yet.

Still acts like a defective power pack if you are loosing spark. Check your kill switch.

Power pack was replaced with brand new one on Saturday and it is acting exactly like my old one.

I have remote control, I found in the repair manual that I have to "Isolate the stop circuit (black/yellow) lead by disconnecting the power pack's five-pin Amphenol connector. Connect four jumper leads between the connector bodies so that pins A-D (brown, blacklwhite, whitelblack and browdyellow) are connected, but pin E (black.yellow lead) is not connected."

I believe I understood you correct. I'll try it today.

I tried to disconnect stop circuit, but no luck.

The only other parts that can be ignition related are the trigger assy and stator. Those can all be tested with a service manual.

Stator is new, I replaced it recently.
I'll try to look into trigger assy.

It was the trigger issue. Now it is running fine.

But now when I switch of the engine the fuse is burning. It happens in 70% of switching off.
After fuse replacement it is working fine again.

You have a short somewhere, check all your wiring. Could be your ignition switch.
