Rectifier/regulator

Hi I need some help with my 1997 Johnson 60HP motor. Model # J60TLECM.
My RECTIFIER/REGULATOR went bad and I ordered the new part off of Boats.net. When it arrived the new RECTIFIER/REGULATOR didn't have a purple wire like the original did. I was told that there was a way to by-pass that due to the purple wire being obsolete. Any help would be great.

Just tape the purple wire on engine so doesn't short out and connect rest of wires same as old one was.
