  • Hiccup

I have a 1987, 48 horsepower engine. Model# J48ESLCUS, Serial# G7504102. I just put on a new power pack assy. The engine starts and runs but there is a hiccup that occurs. It makes the pontoon boat shake like I hit bottom. Is this a fuel problem or electrical? After running a while the engine does not want to start.

Start with a compression test, check for spark on all cylinders with a timing light when engine is running bad to see if losing spark, run a fuel vacumn test to see if have a fuel restriction, check fuel pump and carbs to see if need cleaning.

      Thank you.
Engine is running fine. I guess that maybe I should say that when in gear and the throttle is more than 1/2 to full is when I feel the problem. Maybe it is more of a bang or bump feeling. Could it be a lower unit problem?

Its hard to say. Are you hearing a pop from the lower unit? Or is it more of a stutter, could be a pop from the engine.

It seams to be more of a bang. The feeling is like I hit the bottom.
