I have a 1999 Johnson 150 HP motor and when i get up to 28000 RPM it makes a knocking noise and when i pull back on the throttle it makes a rapping niose. that is the only time it makes noise. below 28000 RPM it runs great.WHAT COULD IT BE?
I am assuming you mean 2800 rpm and the knocking noise can be a rod knock. It is hard to say with this information. Complete a compression and leak down test. This could narrow you results (unless no damage has occured yet). You may want to take to a knowledgable technician who can listen.
