    I have a 35 hp 3 cyl. 1999 johnson
every once in a while when i open throttle up it will only do obout 3000 rpm.
it comes and goes some day the motor runs fine, some time can only get 3000
    rpm any ideas??
seems to do it when its been run a while! let it cool down and it will be ok for a while

When unit is not running properly, complete spark test. Sounds like you maybe loosing spark.

It is most likely a powerpack rather than a coil. But you should check for spark when acting up to verify.

if I have spark at all cyl. how can I test the powerpack?
and if I'm missing spark from one cyl .could it be coil?

Well could be the powerpack or the coil. The coils can be tested, every ignition component except the powerpack can be tested. I recommend purchasing a service manual. The following link should assist you.

Did you verify that you are actually loosing spark? This must be done while engine is malfunctioning.
