  • 1996 Evinrude 130 V4 problem

Hey guys. I have the motor in the title and it has developed an issue. Sometimes at an idle it only runs on 2 or 3 cylinders. It always runs fine through the mid range, but when I get exactly to a certain point on the throttle, every time, without fail, it drops one or two cylinders.

I can cruise at 4000 rpm about 3/4 throttle all day at 46mph, but go past that and wham. Once it gets over 4200rpm its like it hits a wall and drops a cylinder

Max rpm when it does this is 4200. If I hold the throttle there it will continue to miss until I back off again.

Now If I gun the throttle from a dead stop it pulls hard, and doesn't miss at all until it planes off (3 seconds), and the rpms start climbing.

I am thinking power pack, but I wanted to pick your brains to see what you thought.

Would need a peak reading voltmeter to test ignition while it's acting up.
