1975 johnson control problem

i have a 1975 50esl75b the controls that came with it where in bad condition
the shifter won't go into neutral or reverse so the engine won't crank
i want to buy new controls for the engine but the original 1975 controls are expensive and hard to come by my question is can i retrofit a new stlye control box on the engine do the make adapters for older engine?

What control box do you have, single lever side mount, 2 lever side mount, top binnacle mount and is key switch in control box or in dash?

i have the same issue with my 115 powershift II, the controls were frozen when i got the boat and the key was missing. it is a single lever top mount with separate lever for warm up and key in the controls. it is also a non push to choke switch. what are my options?
