Any Johnson OB experts on board? Can outboard midsection years be interchanged? Say 1990 to 1994 or later.
I have a 1990 225HP and noticed that the power head gasket is the same for later years. So my guess is the power head attaches OK. What needs to be changed? Can I use the lower unit? My problem is a mechanic "fixed" the lower unit somehow (welding?) and now it is a noisey engine. I did not see the repair, but he stated "the exhaust and water" would mix sooner? Sure did get loud!
2nd question - I "understand" that outboards should be installed so cavitation plate is at lowest point of transom. How come I/O's are installed much lower? Reason for asking - would a 30" motor I/L of 25" make much difference and why are I/O's like that?
