Is there a difference in the sound of the warning siren when the engine over heats vs when it is low on oil. How can you distiguish which warning it is? Also, if you turn off the key and you turn it back on and the siren does not come back on what would that indicate?

if the motor is 2 stroke there is not a low oil warning and your motor is overheating. if the motor is 4 stroke check to make sure you water pump is pumping water, if it is not obviously check your oil level.

When the siren goes off neither apperas to be the problem, ie water is pumping fine and there is oil in the oil tank (its a two stroke) I was sure there was a low oil pressure siren warning ...

VRO's have an oil sensor on them as well as one on the remote tank. If the thermostats are the problem, would still overheat with good pumping.

Thanks. I'll try replacing the thermostats.

if your alarm is continuos it can be either over temp alarm (ruled out with a infarad thermometer), or a fuel restriction. Both will have the same continous tone or buzzer
