gear case on omc 1990

we have looked throu a lot of oldpost and did not see this.
we whould like to know if we can chang out the gear case an a 1985 johnson with one from a 1990 evinrude here are the model #j90mlcte te90tlesb

Yes the gearcases should be interchangeable.

ty for the info we have tryed a cuple time and it just dos not like the last 1/2 inch or so can you tel me whut the o ring on top part of the drive shift is for ?
