  • Run stop

1998 25hp 2cycle ob motor, it starts and idles fine but when I go to full throttle and the boat planes off it may run for a couple of minutes and then it cuts out almost to the point of dieing. After playing around with it for a few minutes, I can do the samething over and over. the I have replacedthe fuel pump and also bought a new 6 gal tank with new fuel lines and bulb. I wonder if it could be in the ignition maybe a sensor or stator or the charge coil these look to be the main components of the ignition.

And also are these parts difficult to replace? I know that I need to pull the fly wheel to get to these parts and I have a puller. and are mechically inclined. but I'm still aprehensive about doing it.

Probably need to remove and clean carb, check for spark to each cylinder with a timing light at time it's bogging down to see if all cylinders are firing.

      carb clean & timing

I did remove the screw at the bottom of the carb and blew it out with a air hose. In order to clean it the way it should be the carb needs to come off? And the timing can't be checked any other way?

ihad the same problem i think on a 15 evin. dose a cyln. miss when it starts doing this. it really only does it when its warm mine was the outer ignithion coils run it till it starts doing it again remove the hood and listen for snapping
if you can here it start snapping when the motor starts running porly look for where the snap is i found mine by touching everything on the coils with wet fingers till it zapped me they are very easy to change if you cant find it run it at night and see if its arcing off to the motor

You will need to remove carburetors for a thorough clean job. You should varify every air/fuel passage is clear from debri.
