  • Max throttle sputter

1987 Johnson 30 Hp elec. start tiller
Motor idles and starts fine, all good except at high speed, maximum throttle it misses/drops for 1/2 second 2-3 times per minute.
If I back off the throttle 10% it does not miss or drop. Only when throttle grip is fully twisted to the maximum.

I had a mouse under the cowling and I might have sucked in some debris from his nest the first time ou,t but I have since cleaned all that stuff out.
Could something have been sucked into the cylinder/exhaust through the reeds?
    Thanks,
    Andy (punchyp)

Run a compression test, check timing at full throttle and while have timing light check to see if can see a misfire on any cylinder.

I don't have the ability to do all that without it going to the shop.

It ran like that before, only much worse until I cleaned all the mouse nest crap out of the motor.

The next time I went out after cleaning, it ran fine, the next ime after that it started this miss-out at full throttle. and it's not a bad miss, 0.5 second drop, once or twice a minute.

The carb. throat had pink insulation wrapped around the butterfly, so who knows how much of that stuff got sucked in when I was running it with the mouse nesting stuff blowing around inside the cowling.

I just feel like it has something to do with that, as it ran fine before the mouse incident.
Is there anywhere else in the carb I can check for foriegn matter?

That stuff would get sucked into the motor. You should have a compression and spark test done.
