  • 1986 johnson gt 150 problems

I just purchased a 1991 avenger 176 w/1986 Johnson gt 150. When I got the boat it would barely run, I went through carbs and adjust the timing which I'm not sure what the WOT timing is supposed to be and I set it at 20*. Tht helped a lot but when I get to the lake all I can get out of the motor is 3800 rpm while motor is in gear. And you can hear a slight miss. Also while i was timing it there was no spark coming out of 1 cylinder coil pack when at a idle only when you revved it up, i swapped coil pack/spark plugs and still same problem ad the wire feeding the coil with spark is good? My question is what is the timing supposed to be set at and what do you all think my problem could be I'm not real familiar with 2 strokes. I believe I should see more than 3800 rpms

You only set the base timing. Make sure that the timing advance is working. You could have a defective powerpack creating a loss of spark.
