  • Water pump problems

My name is Ken, and i have a 2004 johnson 25 Hp 3 cyl fourstroke(model J25tel4sr) which i suddenly started having some problems with after using for so many years with no issues at all. it suddenly stopped pumping water out of the pee hole when i beached it on a sand bar a few weeks ago. took the lower unit off and decided to replace the impeller with a repair kit #5034358 and also decided to replace the thermostat. while apart i disassembled and flushed everything/line/pee hole i could get to and everything flushed clean just got some sand thats all. the old impeller did have some small chunks missing off of it, so i wondered if it might be plugged up in the water jacket. got all the new parts in and the test run wasnt so hot.... pumps water but at about half the pressure it use to be, also the thermostat cover gets hot enough to burn your hand but the water exiting the pee hole is cool to the touch. the thermostat was still open when i took it back apart real quick so it was working ok. any ideas???????

on one more note while flushing i pulled the flush plug off the back of the motor thats right below the pee hole/ exhaust port and i noticed a piece if rubber which to me looked enlaged but dont want to pry it out unless i know its not supposed to be there
