1993 150 fast strike, mod#:TJ150GLETR, S/N:G03156962. Starts great but a bit rough, then idles down after about 5 sec. and somewhat smooths out. kinda sounds like a harley. When you put it in gear and move around the ramp to dock, it sneezes at times and stalls out. restart and put it in gear, with a little white smoke visible, go across the lake to the fishing spot with a small amout of white smoke still visible. After about an hour, try and crank, crank, tries to catch then eventually is starts up after 15-20 min. of cranking. Put it in gear, it makes a hollow noise and stalls out. Do this a few times and it finally gets going and on plane to the next spot and the process starts over again. I put a spark tester between the coil and plug and it appears to be weak and not distinct although i'm not exaclty sure what it's supposed to look like. I have the service manual, and the stator checks out fine with the exception of the charge coil,(testing the two orange wires on the round connector that go to the regulator which according to the book should be wetweem 495 to 605 ohms and I get 4 to 5 ohms. Thus far I verified the fuel line security and replaced the VRO due to oil alarm, new pluggs installed, and removed and cleaned the carbs and removed alot ot varnish/crap from them. When I sqeeze the primer ball it kinda whistles/groans until the ball gets hard and stops. When I bought the boat it hesistated during hole shot until up on plane. After the carb cleanup, it seemed to resolve the problem. I'm going to the store and pickup an analog meter to complete the 500v checks as required in the manual. I'm picking up a can so I cna run the motor off the muffs to add load/back pressure on the motor and try and duplicate the problem. Any help appriciated.
Update on problem from troubleshooting:
Checked output voltage from charge? coil and got 100v (minimum reqd is 150 from manual) brown six pin connector from stator to Power Pack (PP). No output voltage from PP from primary lead of PP to coil, but I may not be doing the test right. But the engine starts and runs, but idle is slightly rough. Now i'm trying to figure out which PP I have on the engine and if it has to be matched the stator?
