Driver coil defective

I received part no. 763810 Driver Coil. It is for a 1975 40 hp Johnson. The blue and blue/white wires are in the reversed positions from the original on the motor. The wiring diagram I have also, confirms the wires are backwards. Is the internals of the coil correct and can I disregard the wire colors? The wires are not long enough to reach the appropriate terminal. Is the part inherently defective? Thanks for the help.

Should be able to reverse them without any problems.
