  • 96 70 HP johnson

I am new here trying to get around and hope i am posting in the correct place.\

I have never owned a motor and newer then a 70's

    I just purchased a boat with a 96 - 70 hp Johnson.

The guy did not know much about it as it was his dads boat who past away.

How can i tell if it is or is not an oil injection motor, if it is oil injection is it really better to disconnect the VOR and mix the gas in the tank.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance

That should be an oil injected motor. It is very commen for people to disconnect the VRO oil system as it is a commen malfunctioning part.

      Thanks

What would i look for if it was discontected, and is it smart to go that way or is it myth. I read up on it a bit, seems that a lot of issues with regards to them not working make no sence, if you only sieze one or 2 but not all cylinders is it the VRO causing this, you would think if it siezed due to VRO it would all go not just certain aspects of a motor?

Depending on the actual defect to the VRO it can blow the least oiled cylinder.
