I have 1977 9.9 hp that won't start. has not been run for some time. it was not firing on top cylinder. found crack in ignition coil. replaced. now i get a pop out of the exhaust. checked flywheel key. looked good. both plugs are firing out of the cylinder. a little fuel will come out the exhaust. it seems like a timing problem, but don't no where to look next. will not evan try to run if i feed fuel sraight to carb. i have not done anything to the carb yet. trying all other options first. thanks!!!

Have you check to verify compression? Verify all connections to the trigger base.

The trigger controls the spark, it is a plate below the flywheel. Compression is low, rule of thumb is greater than 90PSI and no more than 15PSI difference between cylinders.Last edited by boats.net; 03-22-2012, 03:57 PM.
