Spark and Regulator/Rectifier

I have a 94 J115hp outboard with not spark. That is until I disconnect the regulator/rectifier and spark returns. I thought they were separate circuits but not on my boat. Any help?

They are seperate circuits, might check to see if stator winding is burn up and shorting into source coils.

They are separate circuits. You may have a short in the voltage reg/rect. I do recommend testing the stator with an ohms meter.

How do I test my stator for a 94 Johnson 115hp on the bench? Can I test it on the boat?

Yes you can test on the bench and/or boat, you will require a service manual for the proper proceedures.
