  • 250hp temp problem

I have a 250hp Johnson sea horse, used in salt water locations.

The temp. indictor on the boat dash works. I have grounded the wire to the thermister and the gage pegged.

The motor seems never to get up to operating temp. The lowest gage temperature is 120 F and the gage remains on the low peg it never seems to move even if it idles for a time.

I suspect the thermostats have been removed prior to my ownership. Does anyone have a picture of where these are located on the motor. It is a 2000 model J250vxsss and a 6 cylinder. I would think that any 6 cylinder johnson of this vintage would have the same cooling arrangement.

thanks and you may email me at paulprice6790@comcast.net

They are located at the top of the cylinder heads.
