  • 2001 Johnson 150 prop shaft - clutch dog

My motor "kicks" above 1400 RPM in forward gear, so I'm thinking the clutch dog or forward gear or both are shot. I've taken the prop shaft down to the clutch dog, the reverse gear looked fine, I pulled the driveshaft and I'm wondering if I can just drive the pin out of the clutch dog to inspect it(the forward gear side of it" - or should I just remove the shift rod, and then remove the whole prop shaft? Was looking to save some disassembly time....
    Thanks for any suggestions....

Yes you should remove the shift rod/drive shaft, then the propeller shaft for propper inspection.

Thanks a bunch, ok I pushed down the shift shaft to reverse, and then removed it. I then removed the clutch dog and Forward Gear, but since this is the first time Ive done it, I'm not sure if the clutch dog or Fwd gear or both need replacing. I've taken some pics, is there a way to post them to this forum??

Check shifter parts for wear, check dogs on clutch and gear for wear.
